Education in Eritrea

Eritrea independence in 1991 marked a pivotal shift in the provision of Education of Eritrea. University of Asmara was the only university with a capacity not more than 1,200. Now there are seven Institutes of higher education providing undergraduate and postgraduate studies with a capacity of more than 14,000. British Eritrean Professional can play a role by sharing knowledge and technology

Health in Eritrea

Eritrean achievements in the area of health care is impressive. Medical care is improving rapidly in Eritrea, new hospitals and health centers are in all corners of the country. British Eritrean health care professionals can participate in different capacities in improving health in Eritrea

Evirnment

A century ago, 30% of Eritrean land was covered by forest, but due to successive wars, frequent drought and other factors those thick forests were reduced to 1% coverage. Since the introduction of summer work program, millions of trees and thousands of kilometers of terraces has been constructed. British Eritrean Professionals can help by raising awareness and organizing tree plantation in Eritrea

“Can the Eritrean Diaspora Engineering experience enhance the infrastructure engineering design capability in Eritrea” the next presentation was given by Eng. Sium Yohannes, who is a Principal Engineer at CH2M Hill. Sium has a wide-reaching experience in the engineering sector having worked with a range of national and international organisations. He shared his long-term vision of developing and strengthening the Eritrean skills through some of the mind-boggling multi-Billion projects he has been involved.
Dr Metkel Yebiyo
Lecturer in Building Services Engineering
Dr Metkel Yebiyo is a Lecturer in the Building Services Engineering Division in the School of The Built Environment and Architecture. He specialises in refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps with interests in heat transfer, building performance modelling, computational fluid dynamics and renewable energy technologies. He has completed his PhD on optimisation of control strategies for ground source heat pumps from London South Bank University. Metkel has worked as postdoctoral Research Fellow at London South Bank University and he has over five years of research experience in refrigeration and air conditioning, energy and heat transfer systems.

"DHIS2 is a tool for collection, validation, analysis, and presentation of aggregate and patient-based statistical data. It helps governments and health organizations to manage their operations more effectively, monitor processes and improve communication. I studied health information management system, and I have always believed that Eritrea could benefit from the DHIS2 system. The MOH (Ministry of Health) approved my proposal in 2014 and the project was implemented at a national scale in 2017."

"Dr. Edward Denison’s presentation started with the 20-year relation he has with Eritrea and how Eritrea resonated with him while touring Africa. He described it as “a walk in Asmara is a phenomenal experience for westerners” and appreciated Eritrean’s relationship with their city. He also spoke about the cultural assets rehabilitation project, Asmara’s inscription to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the work done with the push of the Eritrean government on self reliance and increasing of capacity on planning, and digitally scanning the archives which he described as the richest archives he had come across."
